In-Person Sessions
In my sessions, I weave in the vast experience gathered over 30 years of practice. Each session is strongly influenced by my years of advanced level training in CranioSacral Therapy as well as being a Certified Master Practitioner with Healing From the Core.
CranioSacral Therapy is considered part of the field of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) and is regarded as an effective touch technique that is designed to seek and to discover the source of the discomfort and to find the potential solution. Because each person has a unique set of experiences and created compensation patterns, each session requires a highly individualized approach. For example, consider the experience of being rear-ended at a set of traffic lights. The speed and direction of the impact will be different for each person. Then think about how the body was positioned on impact: were you looking ahead or to the side, or were you tense or relaxed? After the accident could you rest or did you have a deadline to meet at work? Did you have previous injuries that got flared up? All of these variabilities can create a unique response within your body. My training in CST has educated my hands so that it's possible for me to feel the adaptions your body has made over time.
In addition, my training in Healing From the Core has helped me develop my ability to hold a steady and grounded presence during your session. Sometimes there is a memory of an intense or traumatic experience that is remembered as the body begins to let go of a holding pattern. My training has given me the tools that make it possible for me to support you in a gentle yet steady way. I can also often teach you ways in which you can be grounded and more able to track your own inner sensations that can help to enhance the results from the session.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A SESSION
The session begins with me carrying out an evaluation of where your body is functioning well and which areas could use help. After the evaluation, I place my hands over the area of the body that is most related to the source of the issue or problem. Often my hands are placed where the pain or discomfort is, but not always.
My hands are highly skilled at noticing changes in the body. A fundamental principle of CST is that our inner wisdom leads the session. My role is to listen to that part of you that knows the solution to the problem. Our body is self-healing, constantly repairing and renewing cells and CST is believed to enhance this capacity.
My hands follow the changes in your body as it occurs. You may feel these changes through different sensations, such as heat, tingling, or changes in pain. Sometimes there are memories that surface as these changes occur.
I end the session by reviewing with you the changes that have happened during the session and ways in which you can continue to help yourself at home.
I created this video so that you can find out more about what it is like to work with me and see what generally happens during a session. In addition, you can find out more about CST and my approach in my book From My Hands and Heart: Achieving Health and Balance with Craniosacral Therapy.
